Belvoir Castle in the rain
by: bobp   published: 06.10.2008 - 18:04   links: n/a

Wet and disillusioned and wondering what else is coming our way?

Belvoir Castle was to be a Grand Final and everything was set to run 9 juniors and dogs 30 Open and their dogs then the weather took an hand in upsetting everything.

The show was cancelled for safety reasons and under that decision we where unable to put on the scurry in fear of an accident and we would not have been insured.
So to all of you that traveled near and far sorry but we will run this Final date yet to be fixed but provisional 28-29March 2009.

This is to be run at Cliff’s place in Salisbury no fear of being washed away and unless there is really heavy snow this Final will be run.
This will get the shooting out of the way and as far as I know clashes with no other show. If you know why this is a bad weekend let me know and we will reconsider.
All of the competitors and invites will be getting confirmation of what is happening as I find out more details.
I have a box of rosettes, prizes, trophies and all manner of things that where meant to be won this weekend we have to run this one some time just sorry that we can not do it sooner

To all the people that came to Belvoir at the weekend whether you where working running or spectating my thanks go out to all of you.
Judith and Cliff extent their thanks for your help over the weekend and hope that we will meet up in 2009 to finish what we started in March this year at Knebworth.

One more show to go that is this coming weekend at Knutsford on the Cheshire show Ground need some dummy chucker’s for the last time this year so if you want to come and help give me a call.

Visit soap box to have your say
by: bobp   published: 29.09.2008 - 08:57   links: n/a

Please take a look at the question posed on soap box ,everybody knows what makes a good scurry now is your chance to let us know so we can think about what we do next year 2009 .
The new season starts in Febuary so we need to think about what you want and see if we need to alter anything .

Please concider this when making your suggestions Scurrybandits wish to encourage juniors and novice more than open competitors ,we will at all our events be looking to bring in new people who want to have a go and then maybe move on to the more difficult events .

We will be running the Multiscurry challenge at all shows next year for the Open competitor and at some shows be putting up cash prizes ,to be decided on later where and what these will be.

I suppose the second part of this invite to give me ideas would be to ask what constitute a junior ,novice and open in your opinion, most immotive of questions so please keep it clean if you see a reply you do not agree with

Not quite there yet
by: bobp   published: 23.09.2008 - 19:51   links: n/a

Before I get in to any more bother this is a new web site new administrator and not yet fully built as we don’t rightly know what is wanted by everyone so if when you have had a look over what we have and you see something that needs adding or subtracting then please use the contact page and enlighten me.

I have today requested a results page and with a little bit of luck this will be in place before Belvoir so that I can put up the names of the competitors who have decided that they wish to compete in the first of what I hope will be many Scurrybandit organized Living Heritage and Countryman gundog sponsored Multiscurry challenge finals .The next final in 2009 will be at Sandringham Palace on the 13th September.

If any of you out there have a problem with what we do or say please contact me. You may not agree with my answer you may not like what I print, but I will endeavor to be honest and open.

Sandringham and other issues
by: bobp   published: 18.09.2008 - 19:57   links: n/a

SANDRINGHAM AS COME AND GONE

If you missed Sandringham last weekend then you missed in my opinion the best venue and show of the year so far in the scurry department.
What made it good was the atmosphere the people who took part and the fact that we changed the format to try and get the junior and novice people more involved and it worked to great effect.

Some of you will tell me that I am wrong but we have decided to let the competitors decide if they are open or novice ,if we know you are open you will not have a choice if you are running your open dog .

You will no longer be able to hand an open dog to a friend and run that dog in novice the dog will be open.

Handing the dog to a junior will also have the penalty of someone having to make the decision of who is to get the prize if the dog wins in open and junior .This is not designed to stop juniors competing but trying to keep a level playing field for everyone .I personally want every junior to run a dog ,but how do you keep it fair for every one when you have an open dog up against the kid with their own dog and an adult running a dog and then handing it on to kid to take the prize .

I need someone to give me a workable solution to the problem without getting into a slagging match and stopping people from at least competing.

Going to The Midlands this weekend and not working, first time that’s happened. Hoping to meet up with a lot of friends and chilling out looking forward to the final of the Hart competition not paid a lot of attention to the league this year just hope we have a good event and we get a worthy winner.

Those of you coming to Belvoir Castle for the Countryways final be aware that there will be 4 events and one of them will involve water and longer retrieves than on a normal weekend .Juniors running a shorter course than the open and on different ground so no one get an advantage .

Question for all runners of scurry dogs
by: bobp   published: 14.08.2008 - 15:17   links: n/a

When is it acceptable for a dog to be run in any open competition? Under the handling of an open event winner , shown the course and then handed to someone else to win extra prizes in iether the novice junior or even open competitions.

I have really never concidered this to be a problem until very recently when it as become apparent that some dogs are being handed round just to win events and stop anyone else from getting to move on or dare I say beat the good dogs .

Personally I find the act of putting a winning dog in the hands of every one who the owner thinks should win a prize and stop everyone else from winning very sad and narrow minded and to me about as unsporting ungentlemanly a sickenly as it gets in this game of gundog scurries .I feel that this is as close to cheating as it gets .

My solution is not only are the open winners to be put in events just for open winners so are the dogs .

No longer will any of the open dogs or handlers be allowed to run in the day to day events but will run in thier own events with thier own prizes thus leaving the gerenal public and the future scurry dogs and handlers to develope into open winners and move on without being knocked off the rosterum at every event by the chosen few .

Competitions such as the final of the Multi scurry Challege will be open to the people who have won rosettes and prizes thoughout the year at Living Heritage Events.

At this time it will be one dog one handler in the open event one dog one handler in the junior event with the two courses being very different with no coaching to be allowed on the start lines by another handler .
